Perdon!

Hello all! Sorry for the lack of posting lately. I've been mostly focused on my other blog. As I see Spain related content out there on the web, I'll be sure to pass it along.

Fumar, o no fumar?

Remember the smoking in Spain? Remember how everyone with the exception of Zoe and Alyse freaking hated it (excluding the occasional "I've been drinking too much and want a cigarette" thing, right Bottitta?)? Well, after a forest fire recently caused a lot of damage over there, the government has outlawed smoking in the Spain countryside. I found it interesting that the article mentions that nearly 30 percent of Spaniards over the age of 16 smoke. I would have guessed it was much higher than that.

Toledo Google Earth Plots!

Hola a todos!

I've added another feature to the site. If you look over on the right, I have a section called "File Downloads". In in you will find my RSS feeds, Podcast feeds, and now some Toledo Google Earth plots!

For those of you unfamiliar with Google Earth, it's a program that provides satellite imagary from around the world. It's a fantastic program and one that everyone should have on their computers. Best of all it's free!!

These plots I've made allow you to see some of the places we frequented in Spain (e.g., Enebro, O'Brien's, Poligono, etc.). All you have to do is download Google Earth at earth.google.com and then click on my link to the right to open the file. If anyone wants to add places that I don't have, just save the file and send it to me and I'll post it on the blog. I have a couple in Madrid, in addition to Toledo. Maybe we could add other cities like Barcelona, and wherever else people travelled.

Que os disfruteis!

Some Links

Buenos dias a todos! I ran across some links this morning that I thought might be applicable to our little blog here.

- This story in the British newspaper Guardian contrasts the ways in which the people of Madrid and London responded to their respective bombings. Kind of interesting. I think it's more a statement of the difference between Spanish and English culture in general. Brits are boring!

- According to this article, Toledanos should be the healthiest people on the planet.

- For all of you ladies residing in Chicago, check out this Google Maps hack and stay clear of the addresses it outlines!

- Remind me never to return to Berlin!

Que tengais un buen dia!

Site Update

Hola a todos. I made a few minor changes to the site today. You may notice over on the top right of the site there are now links to my RSS feed and my Podcast. If you're not using an RSS aggregator yet, I highly suggest it. It's the best way to get news and other content in a hurry. It really is the next generation of the internet.

I don't know how many of you are into podcasting. I got into it a couple months ago. With the recent release of iTunes 4.9, Podcasting is quickly growing in popularity. If you have no idea what it is, this is a good place to start. I haven't personally used the new iTunes interface to catch any of my podcasts. Instead, I use iPodder, which can be found here.

I don't have any podcasts up yet, but hope to in the near future. Things are tough right now with not having a house and all. But I close on my place August 19th, so hopefully I'll get some content up soon thereafter, if not before.

I'm also putting up links to the RSS feeds and Podcasts I'm currently subscribed to. These are in .opml format, so all you have to do is right-click to save it to your harddrive, and then import into your respective aggregator. Most of my comments come from these sources.

Espero que todos os encontreis bien! Hasta la proxima...

More London News

According to a story from Reuters this morning, the London bombings are thought to have been perpetrated by a "local, but well-equipped cell". This of course made me think directly to the bong bar we frequented in London's Arabic quarter. Is it possible that this guy was behind the whole thing?

Also in the article, it was discovered that the explosives used in last year's Madrid train bombings was stolen from a quarry in northern Spain. I hadn't heard that before. Kind of interesting.

London

How ironic that I wrote a little post about London the other day and then it proceeded to get bombed. All this bombing is getting old. Terrorists can besar my culo.

The one bomb went off at a tube stop called Edgware Road, which many of were by on our visit to London. It's kind of freaky to think about. A guy who's blog I read has created a map of the London bombings using the recently released Google Maps API. Kind of interesting stuff. There's also a Flickr stream for you to see some pictures taken by people actually there.

Anyway, hope all is well with everyone and no one had any friends or family injured over there. Until next time....

Madrid 2012

Well, so much for Madrid's bid to host the 2012 Olympics. In a bit of surprise, the games were awarded to the venerable city of London, England. Most pundits had the the games headed to Paris. London hasn't hosted the games since 1948--probably the last time any improvements were made to the Underground. I wasn't a huge fan of London myself, and I wouldn't be anywhere in the UK during the Olympics. On a side note, profit margins at both KFC(thanks to their Bumper Buckets) and wacky-Arab bong bars are expected to increase exponentially.

That night in the bong bar was unquestionably the strangest night of my entire life. That trip also had one of the top five quotes of Spain 2002: "Does anyone know if there's a Salvation Army around here?" - Marcos.

Chorizo

Hola a todos!

It's been awhile since I've posted, so I thought I'd give everyone a grito. Thanks to all who sent me emails of congratulations and everything. I really do appreciate it.

But now I have a question of much greater importance for everyone: how freaking caliente are los cuatro chorizos?

Boy I could use some freaking Enebro right about now. Or how about a Trebol "bomba"? Ay, mi pobre corazon!
